How is Student Progress Monitored?
Student goals are individualized based on learner interest, as well as assessed areas for growth. Therefore, assessments are open-ended and often unique between and across students. With this in mind, a flexible way to assess student growth is through the use of a student portfolio.
In the student portfolio will be not only samples of student work, but more importantly student reflections of learning experiences. Research has shown this meta-cognitive thinking-about-thinking process to be extremely helpful in the learning process.
Also included in this student portfolio will be visual graphs of student mastery of ACT or SAT college readiness standards throughout the learning period.
Artifacts from the learner’s TeachThink portfolio can often be used to begin a “professional” educational portfolio used in many program admission requirements (high school, extracurricular, scholarship applications, college admissions, and the like).
